DAY 01

AIRPORT / COLOMBO (Approximate travel time- 1 hours)

Welcome and assistance by Helanka Vacations representative, transfer to Colombo. Colombo is Sri Lanka’s bustling commercial hub. Visit the Kelaniya temple, the shrine for King Vibeeshana is situated at this temple that is being worshiped by both Hindus and Buddhists of Sri Lanka. Optional- start your city tour and shopping. A drive through the city will take you to Fort and Pettah – the commercial area of the city and tree-lined Colombo 7 – Cinnamon Gardens. Colombo 3, 4, 5 & 8 are the prime residential areas of the City. The Hindu Temple at Sea Street – lined with goldsmith shops, the Dutch Church at Wolfendhal dating back to 1749, the historic Devatagaha Mosque, Independence Square, BMICH, Gangaramaya Temple and Colombo Museum are but some of the many attractions in Colombo. Sri Lanka is renowned for Ceylon Tea, Ceylon Cinnamon, Blue Sapphires spices, precious and semi-precious gems and jewelry in silver, gold and white gold. The nightlife here is lively at a number dining venues. Overnight stay in Colombo.
DAY 02

COLOMBO / KATARAGAMA (Approximate travel time- 5 ½ hours)

After breakfast, advance to Kataragama. En-route- visit the Ussangoda Temple, a torched area which used to be an airport that was used by King Ravana. Visit Tissa Kataragama Temple- Kataragama. It is the believed that the jungle shrine of Kataragama was built by King Dutugemunu, the warrior king and Sinhala folk hero, to worship the Kataragama God in the 2nd century BC. Overnight stay in Kataragama.
DAY 03

KATARAGAMA / NUWARA ELIYA (Approximate travel time- 4 hours)

After breakfast, proceed to Nuwara Eliya. Nuwara Eliya is also known as ‘Little England’ for its picturesque landscapes of beautiful mountains, valleys, waterfalls and tea plantations. Visit the Botanical gardens in Hakgala, established in 1861. Highlights include the central pond, lower flower garden, rose garden, glass house, bulb garden, upper flower garden and their folklores. There is a collection of flowers such as Lilium, Watsonia, Gladiolus, Agapanthus and Zephyranthes. The Badulla tree which can be found here is said to have valuable medicinal properties. This garden is inhabited by many species of birds such as; Wood Pigeons, Southern Crow Pheasants, Layard's Wood Peckers, Fan Tail Warblers, Yellow Fronted Barbertons and Tickell's Flower Peckers. Visit the Seetha Amman temple- a holy site draped in remarkable architecture with a lake flowing nearby famed for being the bathing place of Sita Devi during the Ramayana. Footsteps embedded on the rocks near the lake are said to be that oh Hanuman, displaying his shape-shifting capabilities. Visit the Divurumpola temple. Divurumpola is the place where Sita Devi took her oath to prove her innocence and purity with ‘Agni Pariksha’. When Sitha Devi plunges into the sacrificial fire, Agni, lord of fire, raised Sitha Devi, preventing any harm proving her innocence. Overnight stay in Nuwara Eliya.
DAY 04

NUWARA ELIYA / KANDY (Approximate travel time- 2 ½ - 3 hours)

After breakfast, visit the Bakta Hanuman temple. Gurudev's Sankalpa visited Sri Lanka in 1980, to set up a spiritual center at Rambodha. It was believed that Sri Hanumanji set his feet in these holy hills when he was in search of Sitaji. Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayananda consecrated the temple on 8th April 2001 by performing Maha Kumbhabhishekam. This grand temple is now a great monument where the 16 feet idol of Lord Hanuman is the Moola Murti. After, transfer to Kandy. Kandy was the capital of Sri Lanka during the ancient times of Kings and Queens. Nestling midst low hills and looped by the Mahaweli river, this religious city is one of the most sacred places of worship to Buddhists in the world and was also named a world heritage site by UNESCO. En-route- visit the tea factory in Ramboda and learn about the production of Sri Lanka’s globally sought out for tea. Witness the Ramboda falls is a unique and beautiful sight that can be seen at the Pussellawa area of Nuwara Eliya, at the Ramboda pass. The height of this fall is 109 meters. Visit the Temple of the Tooth relic; the crown jewel of the Kandy city is also known as Dalada Maligawa. ‘Maligawa’ translates to palace and the temple is a part of it. It has seen centuries of peaceful reigns and is one of the many historical places in the island. Witness the Kandyan cultural show – A unique show of Sri Lankan traditional dance (fire and harvest dance), which include an entertaining fire-walking act. The artists dance to the beat of the drums, rising and falling to the lively tempo. Overnight stay in Kandy.
DAY 05

KANDY / SIGIRIYA (Approximate travel time- 2 ½ - 3 hours)

After breakfast, advance to Sigiriya. Sigiriya holds remains of King Kasyapa’s palace, forever set atop the rock yet still showcasing their age-old beauty. Numerous eye-catching highlights persist in this fortress. En-route- visit the Sri Lankan spice garden- Matale, a vast garden which is engulfed by the aromas of Cinnamon, Pepper, Cardamom, Nutmeg and many more varieties of spices. Enjoy the nature, peace, flavor and learning that this garden has to offer. Climb the Sigiriya rock (Lions rock). When entering the site walk along the Royal gardens which consists of pools, fountains and an unending number of aromatic gardens. As you enter the second level of the rock, witness the colourful paintings that date back to 5th century AD. Another interesting architectural masterpiece here is the Mirror wall which was covered with graffiti between the 7th and 10th century AD. The Audience hall is a part of the royal complex constructed on a rock boulder. The Cobra head cave is named due to the natural shape of the rock itself. Sigiriya is one of the many UNESCO heritage sites in the country. Climb Ritigala, which is surrounded by numerous legends all epic in their own right, this 766-meter-tall mountain is the largest in the North Central plains of Sri Lanka, thus allowing for drastic changes in climate from its foot to summit. Along the Eastern side of the mountain rests the archaic monastery of Ritigala that spreads across 59 acres of land. Avant-garde stone bridges, court yards and a primeval hospital make these age-old structures a place capable of fulfilling any antiquarians’ desires. Overnight stay in Sigiriya.
DAY 06

SIGIRIYA / CHILAW / NEGOMBO / AIRPORT (Approximate travel time- 5 ½ hours)

After breakfast, proceed to Chilaw. Chilaw is a peaceful getaway coastline city known for its diverse cultural background. It showcases Sri Lanka’s unique blend of many colours, cultures and customs. Visit the Munneswaram Temple- This complex has a collection of five temples. This temple is considered a sacred shrine of worship for those of the Hindu faith and sees festivals such as ‘Sivarathri’ and ‘Navarathri’, celebrated here annually. Visit the Manavari temple. Manavari is the first place where Lord Rama installed and prayed the Siva lingam after the end of the war with King Ravana. To date this lingam is called as Ramalinga Shivan. After, advance to Negombo hotel, refresh and transfer to the airport for a timely departure.
